Starting in the industry in 2006, Avian King is on track to making a name for herself in the hairdressing world. An established stylist behind the chair, Avian lives a bi-coastal lifestyle, living in NYC as a freelance editorial hairstylist and educator while maintaining a business behind the chair in Seattle. Taking the leap to pursue her dreams in fashion, Avian moved to NYC, giving up everything she had been working towards in Seattle for the opportunities that only NYC can offer. As you will often hear her say, "Go Big, or Go Home."

Avian is fiercely passionate about education, and continues to take classes to increase her growth and expand on her skill set in the industry. It is because of this passion for education that she was introduced to the internationally recognized Vivienne Mackinder, and with demonstrations of her hard work, and passion, Vivienne asked Avian to join her HairDesignerTV team. For the past 3 years, Avian has been assisting Vivienne on shows across the country, such as NAHA, Intercoiffure NYC, and numerous major hair shows like ISSE Long Beach, ABS Chicago, and Premiere Orlando. In addition to assisting on shows, Avian has been asked to support Vivienne educationally by teaching classrooms to spread the culture of HairDesignerTV to other hairdressers.

In 2011 Avian was introduced to the world of Platform Artistry, teaching on stages across the country with HairDesignerTV. Avian loves being on the stage teaching, as well as in the classroom sharing knowledge with students and peers. "I love to teach, and I love to be taught. Watching someone learn, and understand, is the most inspiring part of my craft. Without education, there would be no passion, and no growth. The day we stop learning is the day we die."

A design specialist, Avian's passion lies within the cutting and styling of hair. "I love to cut hair. I LOVE it. But there is something to be said about the way that just simply changing the styling on a haircut can shift the mood of not only the cut itself, but also the woman (or man) wearing it. Simply shifting from a bob you normally style straight, to curling it and tousling it, can change the entire feeling of the style."

As a Master Session Stylist for the L'Oreal Professionel team, Avian has the privilege to work backstage at New York Fashion Week, styling hair for shows such as Oscar De La Renta and Carolina Hererra bridal shows, Katie Gallagher and Jenny Packham.

Since getting her first published collection noticed by modernsalon.com in 2011, Avian has had her passion ignited within the editorial world of hairdressing. Having gotten to do work for Cosmo, and GQ magazine, work with the New York Jets Cheerleaders, as well breaking into the TV world working on Project Runway and Real Housewives of NY, she is on her way to making her mark.  Avian desires to continue to grow as an editorial stylist in New York City, and to expand on her role as one of the educators to the next generation of stylists.
